The world is a tempest, a relentless, cold sea,
Where waves crash with critique and winds of demands,
He sails a small vessel,as brave as can be,
And fights for a foothold on shifting-sand lands.
His shoulders are heavy with futures and fears,
His smile,a thin flag on a fortress of stress,
He’s buffeted daily by judgment and jeers,
And longs for a moment of silent success.
The world is a tempest, a relentless, cold sea,
Where waves crash with critique and winds of demands,
He sails a small vessel,as brave as can be,
And fights for a foothold on shifting-sand lands
Then he turns the knob, crosses the threshold of home,
And the salt of the gale is still sharp on his skin.
This is the moment, the crest of the foam,
Where a new kind of weather must kindly begin.
For the battle outside leaves a hollow, a need,
A quiet attrition of spirit and grace.
It’s not just a”welcome,” a title, a deed,
But a space he must fill, an essential place.
So, hand him the glue for the vase that he broke,
The whimsical, mundane, the simple and true.
Ask him to fix the latch on the cloak,
To decipher the map for a day at the zoo.
Let him be needed to lift something high,
To vanquish a spider,to hold something frail.
Not for his strength, but the light in his eye,
When he answers a call that will never grow stale.
For the world tells him “No,” or “Not quite enough,”
Or”Maybe tomorrow, but not you, not today.”
Your need is the whisper, the comforting stuff,
That washes the stains of the struggle away.
It says, “Here you are bedrock. You matter.
You’re known. Your hands are the anchors, your presence the peace.
However the outer-world’s current has blown,
In this harbor, the turmoil and tension release.”
For the greatest of works are not wrought out of dread,
But spring from a heart that is valued and full.
The courage to conquer what lies up ahead,
Is first fortified where the home’s beautiful.
So, build him that harbor, with need as the core,
Not of duty or burden, but purpose and worth.
And watch how the man who walks through your door,
Goes out to conquer the ends of the earth
